Hi again. I am going to do my every other day blog. So here goes. Do you remember the old Charlevoix post office. The one next to the city county building. We put a tile picture on face book so you can check on it. It meant so much to me when we first moved here. Everyday I would go into town and check on my mail. Or maybe there would that much needed check. But better than that I would meet friends sort of impromptu catch up on the news…go for a cup of coffee and a donut at Boggs bakery. It was always fun to come into town. Then back to work at the grange hall. Do you have any memories of the old post office? Talk to you tomorrow. Sue
Do you remember the Dockside Press? a little building on Belevdere St. With signs painted all over the building.. “Maps ,” “Rare books,” “Great Lakes Ship Wrecks” ” used books all kinds…How I loved exploring inside that cavern. doc was great with kids if they wanted a book and they didn’t, have the right amount of of money Doc would say “what have you got ” they would hold other hands with dimes and quarters . He would always say,”That is the right amount of money.” he just wanted the kids to read. Our son Russel would come hoarse with old copies of National Geographic,,s
what a fun way to spend a summer day. do you have any memories of Doc Ratigans a Charlevoix treasure
See you tomorrow. love to hear from you. Sue.
Well I am finally getting it together …January is moving along and it is cold and blustery. I think of all my friends in warmer climates basking in the sun eating oranges, walking on sandy beaches…so here I am sitting in front of a light box that is supposed to regenerate my vitamin D. I hope it works. Winter is a great time to read and write and think about cleaning my house. Boring but necessary…. Start with the closet or one closet. You can’t imagine what you will find that you haven’t needed or used in 15 years. Puzzles missing parts …hula hoops ,tennis balls that no longer bounce, weights to build beautiful abs , weight watcher cook books, exercise mats, Walkmans , Jane Fonda tapes ,yoga made easy, several old leatards, leg warmers, snow shoes, ice skates, x country ski boots, and I ask you how did we fit all this body building equipment in one closet? Well if you don’t see it you don’t have to use it and you can snuggle up in front of your light box and read a good mystery.. That’s it for today . To be continued…..sue
OK GUYS,Painting outside is something that artist have always done….It never had a name, you painted and drew with whatever you had in your car or your purse or back pack..a pencil, a pen, watercolors if you had them on you. Whenever the muse moved you. Russ and I would pack the car and go painting. Sitting on the ground as bugs crawled up our legs…My water jar would spill.. People would come by and look at Russ’s work and then look at mine and compare.. Why did you do that? So I learned to draw and paint fast, fast, move on to the next subject. Russ is methodical and I would be stranded in one spot…So I would pack up my gear and move to the next area that interested me. Gradually as I got older the studio was so much better to work in. My time …My mistakes. This past sunday was a beautiful day. So Russ and I decided to paint outside. So it took one hour to get it together.Pack the paints, stretch the paper, pack the tackle box, sketch books, water bottles, paper towels, sponges, brushes, pens, pencils, water containers…on and on, Oh don’t forget the camp chairs…..Out to the farm…Russ wanted to go one way and I wanted to go the other..So he took the car and I hoped I had all my supplies together and off I went in search of beauty…of course it was all around me. I set up everything including my chair… Totally exhausted I sat down…to be continued tomorrow ….Tell me your stories…Got to get to work.
